Left suggests crowd-funding to rescue A-I

As Air India stares at a looming financial crisis af­ter the initial attempts to auction it failed last month, suggestions are trickling to revive the carrier without se­lling it off to a private company.

The latest suggestion has come from senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and party national secretary Atul Kumar Anjan who wants the Narendra Modi government to crowd-fund Rs 5,000 crore from high net worth individuals in the country to resurrect the national carrier.

Currency with public hits record at over Rs 18 lakh cr

Currency with the public has reached a record high of over Rs 18.5 lakh crore, more than double from a low of about Rs 7.8 lakh crore it had hit post-demonetisation decision in late 2016, as per RBI data. At the same time, the total currency put in circulation by RBI has also more than doubled to over Rs 19.3 lakh crore – from a low of about Rs 8.9 lakh crore post- demonetisation.

Currency with the public is arrived at after deducting cash with banks from total currency in circulation.

India mulls new group in WTO to work on future plans

India is considering bringing together a group of 8-10 member countries of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to prepare an agenda for creation of a conducive atmosphere in Geneva to ensure smooth functioning of the global trade body, a top government official said.
