Vajpayee's condition improving: AIIMS

 Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's condition is improving and he is being monitored by a team of doctors round-the-clock, sources at the AIIMS said today.

The BJP stalwart continues to be in the ICU of the Cardio-thoracic Centre at the hospital.

"Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is stable. He continues to show improvement and is being monitored by the team of doctors," the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said in a statement.

Costlier fuel raises WPI inflation to 14-month high

Inflation based on wholesale prices shot up to a 14-month high of 4.43 per cent in May on increasing prices of petrol and diesel, prompting industry to demand action from policymakers to keep fuel prices under check. The wholesale price index (WPI) based inflation stood at 3.18 per cent in April and 2.26 per cent in May last year.

According to government data released on Thursday, inflation in food articles was at 1.60 per cent in May 2018, as against 0.87 per ce­nt in the preceding month.

India expects growth in G&J exports as China slashes tariffs by 65%

Direct exports of jewellery to China as well as that to Hong Kong are expected to see significant growth with Beijing reducing import tariffs by an average 67 per cent on 18 categories of jewellery.

The Chinese customs ta­r­iff commission has reduced ‘most favoured nation’ tariffs for consumer goods covering 1,449 tax categories, including 18 types of jewellery.

Petrol, diesel prices hit pause button

After declining for a fortnight, petrol and diesel prices have hit a pause button with rates remaining unchanged for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

Petrol and diesel pri­ce were last revised on June 12 when they were cut by 15 paise and 10 pa­ise a litre, respectively. Rates have stayed un­changed since then, according to a review of price notifications issu­ed by state fuel retailers.

Army jawan abducted; another jawan, 2 ultras killed in encounter

Two militants and an Army jawan were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, while another jawan was abducted from Shopian on Wednesday.

“Two terrorists have been killed in an ongoing operation in Panar forest area of Bandipora (in north Kashmir),” a defence spokesman said here. He added that a jawan also lost his life in the operation.
